The Butaan Project - Monitoring Populations
MamPam Conservtion
We monitor butaan populations in fragmented and degraded habitats and literally watch the animals disappear! Since 2001
we have used infra-red controlled camera traps to monitor Butaan populations. It has been very difficult, but some of the
results have been spectacular, including the first still and video footage of butaan ever recorded in the wild.
Camera traps have allowed us to monitor butaan populations on Polillo in a way never attempted for any lizard speces before.
23 of our Trailmaster units are beyond repair and will cost $200 each to replace. You can sponsor a camera trap on Polillo and get regular updates on what it sees, and even prints of
the best shots.
